India-Pakistan ceasefire: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to US President Donald Trump Wednesday and told him that “there were no discussions on a trade deal between India and the US or about a mediation between India and Pakistan” during the four days of military confrontation, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said.

Underlining that the “ceasefire took place after talks between Indian and Pakistan’s existing channels in the military” and “at Pakistan’s request”, PM Modi told Trump that “India has not accepted any mediation in the past, doesn’t accept it at present and will not accept it in the future”, Misri said while giving a readout of the call. Modi also told him that there is a national political consensus on this issue of mediation.

“The two leaders were scheduled to meet in Canada, but they couldn’t meet. So, at President Trump’s request, there was a call that lasted about 35 minutes,” Misri said.
